松尾芭蕉が京都の俳人露吹庵和休に、大津の乙州の新宅で越冬しているので、琵琶湖の月夜を共に楽しみたいから、一夜とまりで遊びに来津を誘った元禄三年の手紙。
「日ごろにくき烏も雪のあした哉」の一句が添えられている。
